RHS Student Tailgate Set for Friday

Bleacher Creatures will be hosting a pregame tailgate Friday before the home football game against Northmont.

The tailgate will include games and a food truck with the festivities starting at 7 p.m.

Bleacher Creatures is a program that Richmond High School has that provides a student section for sports and hopes to excite students about school spirit.

Sophomore Madison Spradling is one of the students involved in organizing things.

“One of my main goals this year for Bleacher Creatures is to really bring back the tailgates,” Spradling said. “I remember my brother doing them when he was in school and all the students seem to enjoy them a lot and I think it would be amazing to have them again.”

The student section also helps involve Homecoming Games, t-shirts, and chooses theme nights for games. Their goal is to plan events and provide fun things for students to do.

Social Studies teacher AJ Cox is the faculty advisor to the program.

“My goal is to expand student participation as well as give students a fun and worthwhile high school experience,” Mr. Cox said.

Theme nights for football games this year are as follows: Red Devil Pride on Friday against Northmont, Beach Theme on Sept. 2, JINX Night (Purple and Black) for Homecoming vs. Muncie Central on Sept. 23, and a Pink Out on Oct. 30 vs. Logansport.

There is also a theme night for the volleyball game on Tuesday, Aug. 30 against Northeastern. The theme is “White Lies”.

There will be more events and theme nights to come this year.
