Down, set, hire! Former Earlham Quaker football player Abe Tawfeek has been approved as the new Richmond Red Devil football coach after a vote by the School Board on March 8, 2017. At Earlham, Tawfeek was named an All-North Coast Athletic Conference defensive back.

“I went to college here so I’m very invested in the community,” Tawfeek said in the Palladium Item. “I can’t tell you how excited I am, there’s a lot of things in place that I believe we’re going to be able to build a powerhouse football program and compete for a state championship year in and year out, but most importantly, change the lives of the young people while we’re doing it.”

Tawfeek was the head coach at Indianapolis Northwest for two seasons and turned a winless team into a .500 team with two consecutive 5-5 seasons.
