Led by two freshmen and a senior, the gymnastics team took first place at the Connersville Sectional on Saturday, earning a trip to the Columbus East Regional on Friday, March 1 at 7:00 pm. Freshman Liz Ruger won the all around competition, winning first place on bars, beam, and vault. The Bosell sisters, freshman Kinsey and senior Eva brought home top six finishes. Eva finished fifth on the vault and Kinsey brought home sixth place. Eva also finished fifth on the bars. Kinsey was the highest RHS finisher on the floor, earning third place. Ruger tied for fourth on the floor, in the only event she didn’t win.
“Going in, I didn’t think that I would place much because I thought the competition would be hard and it was,” Ruger said. “But, I finished my routines and I realized I was winning.”
Being a freshman it affected Kinsey’s reaction.
“It was kind of surreal and I didn’t think I would do it because I”m a freshman,” she said.
With the sectional, the team and Bosell went in with support and confidence.
“We had so much support from last year’s team to take away the pressure from the previous win,” Kinsey said. “It was a tough meet with very good competition but it also was a high adrenaline meet. We had fun while being serious and trying our best.”
With tough times throughout the Sectional, the team kept their mind straight and didn’t focus on scoring in the moment.
“Some events were a struggle for us but our goal to win was not what we focused on, we took the event and the skill one at a time and tried both not to focus on anyone else’s score,” Kinsey said.
