Getting ready to hit the vault table, freshman Liz Ruger completes one of her vaults at the Connersville Sectional. Ruger led the team, finishing 1st in the All-Around at the Sectional, and taking 2nd in the All-Around at the Regional. The team competes in the State meet on Saturday at Noblesville High School.

The Richmond High School Women’s Gymnastics team went to the Regional last Friday and are now on their way to State for the first time in 39 years, thanks to a 2nd place finish. The seven teammates going to State are Lizzy Ruger, Kinsey Bosell, Eva Bosell, Kayla Zaleski, Katelyn Evans, Aubrey Uhte, and Ashley Madill. The competition will be held on Saturday, March 9, at Noblesville High School.

“It feels pretty good knowing that our hard work pays off,” sophomore Deserae Rivas said. “Hopefully we can continue making history at State.”

Evans said the perseverance of the team helped them get to where they are.

“This year we went into the meets confident and fearless,” she said. ” There were a few bumps in the road, a few people got injured, but we pushed forward and made it to State. Going to State is a huge accomplishment for us.”

Competition begins at 1 pm.
